Three children died after taking a bath in a pond in Pabna Sadar Upazila. The incident took place at around 2 pm on Friday (September 11) in Daspara village of Chartarapur union of the upazila, said Sadar Police Station OC Tariqul Islam.

The deceased children are Sumi Khatun (7), daughter of Shimul Mallik of Daspara village, and Khalid Hossain (8) and Afia Khatun (5), two children of Md. Ashraful Islam of the same village.

Citing locals, the police said that the three children went to take a bath in the rainwater accumulated in the field next to their house at noon. At one point, they drowned in the deep water in the lower part of the field.

Relatives and locals went into the water and searched for them. Later, the three children were rescued and taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

OC Tariqul Islam said that after receiving the information, police were sent to the spot. Legal proceedings are being taken in the incident.
