The High Court has dismissed the writ petition challenging the legality of the notification issued banning all activities of the Awami League and all its organs, affiliates and fraternal organizations on the ground that it was 'not raised'. A High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan passed the order on Sunday (September 13).

The lawyers present in the court said that the writ petition was not filed properly (not in form), hence it was dismissed on the ground that it was 'not raised'. A person named Md. Al Amin, a resident of Srinagar, Munshiganj, filed this writ petition. Lawyer Yunus Ali represented him in the court. Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Noor Mohammad Azmi had informed about filing this writ on September 7.

The writ petition sought a rule on why the notification issued by the Home Ministry on May 12 last year (2025) should not be declared illegal. At the same time, a request was made to suspend the operation of the notification while the rule is pending.

The notification was issued by the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry on May 12 last year, banning the activities of the Awami League. It said that until the trial in the International Crimes Tribunal is completed, all activities including publications of any kind, media, online and social media campaigns, processions, meetings, gatherings, conferences, etc. of the leaders and workers of the Bangladesh Awami League and all its organs, affiliates and fraternal organizations have been banned.
