Several nations—including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada—have issued travel warnings for Saudi Arabia amid growing security concerns following a series of Houthi attacks on the country's airports.

Australia and New Zealand issued fresh warnings on Monday (October 12). Previously, the US, Canada, the UK, South Korea, and Japan had issued similar advisories.

Travelers have been advised to cancel trips to Saudi Arabia or to refrain from traveling there unless absolutely necessary.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised citizens to avoid King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Additionally, it has urged citizens to reconsider plans to travel through other airports in Saudi Arabia.

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised against all travel to Riyadh's main airport and the provinces of Najran, Jizan, and Asir, while also recommending that citizens avoid travel to other parts of Saudi Arabia unless essential.

Last Sunday, the US Embassy in Riyadh advised citizens to reconsider travel plans to Saudi Arabia, citing the threat of attacks by Iran and Iran-backed Houthi forces.

Meanwhile, South Korea has advised its citizens currently in Saudi Arabia to leave the country unless they have urgent business, and has urged those planning to visit to cancel their trips.

Canada has also advised against travel to Saudi Arabia unless necessary. The UK has advised avoiding travel to the cities of Jeddah and Dammam.

Furthermore, the UK has advised against using any Saudi airports other than Medina International Airport unless absolutely necessary.

Five attacks on Saudi airports have occurred in less than a week. Among these, an attack on King Khalid International Airport on Sunday left one person dead and 11 injured, according to the country's civil aviation authority.

The previous day, Saturday, a Houthi attack on the same airport resulted in 13 deaths and over 300 injuries. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for Sunday's attack. Following the attacks, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam remain closed. Additionally, flight operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah have been disrupted, causing air travel disturbances across West Asia.

According to FlightRadar24, a website that tracks flight data, more than 150 flights were cancelled at Jeddah airport on Sunday, while 374 flights were delayed.

Brendan Sobie, a Singapore-based aviation analyst, stated that it is difficult to predict with certainty the impact these attacks will have on regional and international air travel at this stage.

The extent of the impact will depend on the duration of the crisis, how long Riyadh's airport remains closed, and what restrictions are imposed once operations resume.
