An elderly man named Abdul Mannan Mallick (60) died after being hit by an autorickshaw while crossing the road in Bakerganj, Barisal.

The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the area adjacent to the Model Mosque in Ward No. 1 of Bakerganj Municipality. After the accident, the police, with the help of locals, stopped one autorickshaw, but the other escaped.

The deceased Abdul Mannan Mallick is the son of the deceased Shamsul Haque Mallick of Jinia village in Garuria Union No. 10 of Bakerganj Upazila.

According to local sources, Abdul Mannan was crossing the road adjacent to the Model Mosque on Thursday afternoon. At that time, he was seriously injured when he was hit by two speeding autorickshaws. Local people rescued him and took him to the Bakerganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

After the accident, the police, with the help of locals, seized an autorickshaw. However, the other autorickshaw escaped.

Bakerganj police said that the body was handed over to the relatives around 5 pm on Thursday as the family did not file a written complaint and requested to hand over the body without an autopsy.
