A grand inauguration of a tree plantation program was held in Bakerganj, Barisal as part of the 250 million tree planting program announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Barisal-6 (Bakerganj) constituency MP and freedom fighter Abul Hossain Khan was present as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. Bakerganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Milton Chandra Pal presided over the ceremony.
Present at the event were Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tanmoy Halder, Upazila Livestock Officer Saleh Al Reza, Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Saiful Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Md. Icha, Bakerganj Municipality BNP General Secretary Shahabuddin Talukder Shahin, Bakerganj Municipality Jubo Dal Convener Ataur Rahman Roman, along with various government officials, political leaders and local dignitaries.
In his speech as the chief guest, Abul Hossain Khan said, "There is no alternative to tree plantation to maintain environmental balance, combat the adverse effects of climate change, and build a green and livable Bangladesh for the next generation. Everyone must come forward from their respective positions to implement this program announced by the government." He further said, “Trees not only protect the environment, they also play an important role in economic prosperity and biodiversity conservation. Therefore, everyone should take the responsibility of planting and caring for at least one tree.”
At the end of the program, the guests planted saplings of different species of trees.
