As the water level of the country's major rivers increases, short-term floods may occur in new areas within the next 24 to 48 hours. At the same time, the current situation may deteriorate further.

This information was given in the latest bulletin issued by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center on Monday (July 13).

It was further stated that river water is currently flowing above the danger level at 5 points in the country. These include the Sangu River at Bandarban and Dohazari stations, the Kushiyara River at Markuli in Sunamganj and Fenchuganj in Sylhet, and the Someshwari River at Kalmakanda in Netrokona.

As a result of this increase in water, the low-lying areas adjacent to the rivers in several districts of the country's north, northeast and southeast are at risk of flooding. Especially Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur and Kurigram in the northern region; The flood situation may worsen in the low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Sherpur and Mymensingh districts in the northeast and Feni, Chittagong and Khagrachari districts in the southeast.

However, the Flood Forecasting Center has reported some relief in some areas. According to the forecast, the flood situation may improve somewhat in the next 24 hours in the southern districts of Bandarban, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar, along the Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers, and in the Manu and Khowai river basins of Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts.
