The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) has arrested Farzana Akhter alias Lata (32), the main accused in the viral incident of twisting the legs of a two-month-old newborn baby in Madhabdi, Narsingdi.

Camp Commander and Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Ariful Islam gave this information at a press conference organized at the temporary office of RAB-11 Narsingdi at 8 pm on Friday (July 17).

RAB said that recently a video of brutal torture on a two-month-old baby due to a family dispute in the Paikardi area of Madhabdi police station in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila went viral on social media. A video recorded on the child's mother's secret mobile phone shows the child's aunt Farzana Akhter Lata seriously injuring her leg. After the video went viral, widespread anger and criticism spread across the country.

Later, Probation Officer Riza Akhter of the District Social Services Office filed a case with Madhabadi Police Station as the plaintiff. When the matter came to the attention of RAB-11, they started a shadow investigation. On Friday afternoon, through information technology and intelligence surveillance, the main accused Farzana Akhter alias Lata was arrested in a raid at a relative's house in Rupganj area of Narayanganj.

RAB further said that during the initial interrogation, Farzana Akhter Lata confessed to her involvement in the incident and expressed remorse for her actions. She was later handed over to Madhabadi Police Station for legal action.

It is worth mentioning that on July 14, Probation Officer of the District Social Services Office Riza Akhter filed a case with Madhabdi Police Station against Farzana Akhter Lata, her husband Kausar Ahmed and father Almas Mia. After filing the case, Lata went into hiding. Later, her husband Kausar Ahmed and father Almas Mia were arrested by the police and sent to jail through the court. After being on the run for a long time, the main accused Farzana Akhter alias Lata was finally arrested in a raid by RAB-11.
