Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament and Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, stated, “Our six-point demand has now evolved into an eight-point demand. The number of demands may increase based on the people’s needs. Conversely, it might become necessary to scrap all existing demands and announce a single-point demand to serve the public interest. Are you prepared? Today’s long march is directed towards you; the next long march will proceed from here to Dhaka. Stay prepared, Insha’Allah.”

He made these remarks while addressing a rally as the chief guest at the Nagar Jalfai Bypass in Tangail during the Dhaka-Rangpur long march on Saturday (September 19) afternoon.

He further questioned, “Why did you not implement the ‘July Charter’? You had promised that unelected individuals would not be allowed to govern the country anywhere. Yet, you have appointed administrators in various places. You have betrayed the nation.”

He added, “The nation did not ask you for this card or that card; it was you who promised to introduce these cards to the people. You are failing to deliver what the nation actually wanted. We have taken to the streets to secure these rights.”

Meanwhile, Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam said, “A difficult struggle lies ahead of us; the government is betraying the people. We are the successors of Tangail’s Maulana Bhashani; we must continue our struggle against Delhi’s hegemony.”

Colonel Dr. Oli Ahmed stated, “Prime Minister, you cannot run the country the way you are currently administering the government through the Awami League. Do not push us towards a single-point movement.”

Presided over by Tangail District Jamaat Amir Ahsan Habib Masud, the event featured speeches by special guests including Jamaat-e-Islami Central Naeb-e-Amir Professor Mujibur Rahman MP, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Dr. AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Labour Party Chairman Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Iran, Dhaka Metropolitan Jamaat Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul MP, Nezame-e-Islam Party Naeb-e-Amir Allama Mufti Mokhlesur Rahman Qasemi, and Colonel Dr. Oli Ahmad’s son Omar Faruk, LDP Acting Secretary General Bilal Hossain Miyaji, NCP’s Sarwar Tushar, and others.
