BNP candidate Eliza Zaman has submitted her nomination papers in the by-election for the reserved women’s seat vacated by Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti’s resignation.

Returning Officer Moin Uddin Khan said that Eliza Zaman submitted her nomination papers on Monday, the scheduled day for submission of nomination papers.

Eliza Zaman is a member of the BNP’s central executive committee and joint convener of Pirojpur district BNP.

She is also serving as the organizing secretary of the Barisal division of the Central Women’s Party.

After submitting her nomination papers, Eliza Zaman spoke to reporters at the Election Building. She expressed her gratitude to BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for nominating her for the reserved seat.

According to the announced schedule, the nomination papers will be scrutinized on Tuesday. There will be an opportunity to appeal against the selection decision on Wednesday. If someone appeals, it will be resolved on October 29.

The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is November 1. After that, the symbol will be allotted on November 2. After completing all the procedures, the election date has been set for November 12.

However, according to the rules for allocating reserved women’s seats in parliament, this seat will go to BNP. As a result, no other party has the opportunity to field a candidate in this seat.

If there are no complications in the nomination papers, Eliza Zaman will be elected as the BNP candidate according to the rules.

In that case, there will be no need to wait until the election date, she will be declared elected unopposed after the formalities of scrutiny and appeal settlement are completed.

Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti, the BNP reserved women’s seat MP, resigned on October 1 after allegations were raised about her involvement in the attack, looting and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Center in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Later, the seat was declared vacant and the Election Commission announced the schedule for the by-election.
