Prime Minister En Route to the UN with the Message of a New Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has departed Dhaka for New York, USA, to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He set out from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Turkish Airlines flight at approximately 5:45 AM today, Monday (September 21).

Accompanying the Prime Minister on this significant visit is his spouse, Dr. Zubaida Rahman. The delegation also includes several cabinet members, political figures, and senior government officials.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam stated that the Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver a key address at the UN high-level general debate on September 24. The central themes of his speech on the global stage will include Bangladesh’s new democratic journey, the establishment of the rule of law and accountability, global peace, climate change, and the equitable use of modern technology.

According to diplomatic analysts, this first direct participation by the new government at the UN’s highest forum presents a major opportunity to showcase the roadmap for a future Bangladesh and its political commitments to the global community.

Although the Prime Minister’s itinerary in New York is brief, it has been structured to be highly meaningful. During the visit, he will participate in five high-level meetings addressing Bangladesh’s democratic transformation, the establishment of good governance, and a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis.

Additionally, Bangladesh has organized two special side events on the sidelines of the conference. This session holds particular significance for Bangladesh, as the country’s own Foreign Minister is presiding over the 81st session—a role that has elevated the nation’s standing in global diplomacy to new heights.
