3 Killed, At Least 25 Injured in Two-Bus Collision in Madaripur

Three people died on the spot after a speeding bus rammed into the rear of a stationary passenger bus on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Shibchar, Madaripur. At least 15 to 25 passengers from the two buses were injured in the incident.

The tragic accident occurred around 3:30 PM on Friday (September 25) in the Bakharkandi (Panchchar) area of Shibchar on the expressway.

According to the Fire Service, police, and eyewitnesses, a ‘Palki Paribahan’ bus was traveling from Gopalganj to Dhaka with passengers on Friday afternoon. Upon reaching the Bakharkandi area around 3:30 PM, the bus suffered a mechanical failure (specifically a tire issue), prompting the driver to park it on the side of the expressway (though another source claims the bus was dropping off passengers there).

At that moment, a speeding ‘Hanif Paribahan’ bus approaching from behind lost control and violently rammed into the stationary Palki Paribahan bus. Both buses sustained severe damage, and three passengers died at the scene.

Upon learning of the horrific accident, locals immediately began rescue operations. Later, personnel from the Bhanga (Faridpur) Fire Service and the Shibchar Highway Police arrived at the scene to join the rescue efforts.

The injured were rescued and admitted to the Shibchar Upazila Health Complex and local clinics. Several of them were in critical condition and were subsequently sent to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.

Abu Jafar Sardar, Station Officer of Bhanga Fire Service, stated that the Palki Paribahan bus was parked on the expressway when the speeding Hanif Paribahan bus struck it from behind, resulting in the casualties.

Traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway was halted for some time following the accident. Normal traffic flow resumed after the Highway Police removed the two damaged buses.

Md. [Name Incomplete], Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Highway Police Station… Mizanur Rahman and Shibchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer HM Ibne Mizan stated that the process of identifying the deceased is underway. Necessary legal action will be taken after investigating the actual cause of the accident.
