All scheduled banks in the country will remain closed from October 20 to 22 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja. As the following two days—Friday and Saturday—are weekly holidays, banks will effectively remain closed for five consecutive days. However, banking transactions will proceed as usual on Saturday, October 17.
Bangladesh Bank issued a circular regarding this matter on Monday.
The circular states that, in line with the government’s decision, banks will remain closed from October 20 to 22 for Durga Puja. To compensate for this, all scheduled banks will operate according to their normal schedules on Saturday, October 17. However, separate instructions have been issued for bank branches located in port areas.
The circular notes that bank branches and booths situated in sea, land, and air port areas (including ports and customs zones) typically operate 24/7. In these areas, import-export related banking activities must continue on a limited scale during the government holidays (October 20–22) as well as the weekly holidays (October 23 and 24).
Banks may make necessary arrangements in this regard after consulting with the local administration and port or customs authorities.
