At least 14 people have been killed in a Russian drone strike on a busy shopping center in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih. Another 121 were injured in the incident.

22 children are among the injured. In addition, 29 people are in critical condition, local officials said.

The attack was carried out on the largest shopping complex in Kryvyi Rih on Friday (21) evening local time. After the attack, the building caught fire. The entire area was covered in smoke.

A video circulating on social media shows rescue workers rushing to the scene after the attack and working to rescue the injured.

Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council, said on Telegram that 14 people have been killed and 121 injured in the attack so far. The death toll could rise.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky strongly condemned the attack. He described the attack in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih as “brutal and heinous.”

Zelensky claimed that a second Russian drone hit the same shopping center about 30 minutes after the first drone strike. The second attack was a planned attack targeting rescuers and emergency workers.

He said such attacks were “nothing short of terrorist acts.” He called on the international community to apply effective pressure on Russia and hold it accountable for the attacks.

Zelensky also said that Russia must be held accountable for peace.

Meanwhile, four people were killed in separate Russian attacks in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region. Three of the dead were children.

According to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, at least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 others were injured in Russian attacks in July alone. The UN monitoring mission reported that July saw the highest monthly civilian casualties since May 2022.

Meanwhile, the 34-member ‘Coalition of the Willing’ of Ukraine’s allies will meet on Monday ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day. The meeting is expected to reiterate support for Ukraine.
