Government to buy 2 cargoes of LNG from South Korea and UK

The government is buying two cargoes of LNG from South Korea and the UK to meet the country’s gas demand. The gas, which is being imported for the second and third weeks of September, will cost more than $24 per million British thermal unit (MMBTU).

On Monday (August 24), the government’s Cabinet Committee on Procurement, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, approved the proposal to import two cargoes of LNG from South Korea and the UK. This LNG is being purchased following an international quotation collection process.

One cargo of LNG will be imported from South Korea’s leading trading and energy company ‘Poske International Corporation’ between September 13-14. This will cost $24.625 per MMBTU.

In addition, the procurement committee has approved a proposal to import one cargo of LNG from UK’s Total Energies & Power Limited on September 23-24. This will cost $24.25 per MMBTU.

Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Procurement held on August 19 approved a proposal to buy LNG from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Limited at $23.93 per MMBTU.
