The US has approved the sale of about $5.75 billion worth of weapons and military equipment to Saudi Arabia. The country’s State Department said this in a statement. Middle East Eye reported.

The statement said that a potential proposal for the sale of about $5 billion worth of Joint Direct Attack Munitions-Extended Range (JDAM-ER) to Saudi Arabia has been approved. The main supplier of these weapons is Boeing.

In addition, the US has also approved the sale of about $750 million worth of AGT-1500 engines to Saudi Arabia. The main contractor for the supply of these engines is Honeywell.

The US State Department said that these weapons and equipment will help increase Saudi Arabia’s air defense capabilities. At the same time, it will play a role in countering current and future regional threats, strengthening its own territory, and increasing coordination with military systems used by the US and other Gulf allies.

The statement added that the agreement will help meet US foreign policy and national security objectives. In addition, it will further strengthen Saudi Arabia’s security as a major non-NATO ally of the United States.
