A man has died after jumping from the roof of the 16th floor of BIRDEM Hospital in the capital.

The incident took place at around 6:40 pm on Tuesday, said Ramna Police Station SI Naeem Ul Islam.

The deceased, Dipu Sultan Russell (42), lives in the Gendaria TS Post Office area of ​​Dhaka. His father’s name is Imam Uddin.

SI Naeem Ul Islam said, “Russell himself climbed the hospital stairs to the 16th floor roof. There, he smoked about three cigarettes. He looked down several times. Then he jumped from the roof and died on the spot.”

Upon receiving the information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.

Police say Russell was a ‘drug addict’. He ‘didn’t do any work’. He was also in a drug addiction treatment center. He and his wife also separated due to drug addiction. He has an 11-year-old child.

Police believe he may have committed suicide due to a mental breakdown due to family disputes and separation from his wife.
