Police from the Sadar Model Police Station detained 25 teenagers during a special drive aimed at curbing the activities of “teen gangs” and reducing juvenile delinquency in Kishoreganj town. They were subsequently released into the custody of their guardians upon the signing of a formal undertaking.
The operation was conducted on Monday night (September 14) at various key locations and popular hangout spots across the town. The teenagers were taken to the police station after being found loitering or hanging out aimlessly.
Later, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station, Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, summoned the guardians to the station and spoke with them. He advised the guardians to prevent their children from loitering outdoors unnecessarily or hanging out in public places after dusk.
Police stated that late-night loitering and aimless hanging out increase the risk of teenagers becoming involved in criminal activities. Consequently, night patrols have been intensified across various areas of the town. Teenagers and young men found loitering suspiciously are being questioned, and when necessary, they are brought to the station so their guardians can be warned.
OC Abul Kalam Bhuiyan remarked that ensuring the safety of the general public is the police’s responsibility. He noted that operations against drugs and teen gangs are ongoing and are already yielding positive results.
He further added that, under the initiative of the Superintendent of Police, work is underway to install CCTV cameras throughout the town. Once implemented, this measure is expected to play a more effective role in controlling various types of crime, including the activities of teen gangs.
