Nahida Akter is set to take over as the captain of the Bangladesh women’s T20 cricket team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has selected the experienced left-arm spinner to succeed Nigar Sultana Joty, a development confirmed by a BCB source.

On Sunday (October 18), the source indicated that the decision to appoint Nahida as the new captain has been finalized, with Sobhana Mostary set to serve as her deputy. The BCB is expected to issue an official press release regarding this later in the afternoon.

Having served as the national team’s vice-captain for a long time, Nahida has been entrusted with the leadership of the T20 side, thanks to her extensive experience and consistent performances.

Previously, Nigar Sultana Joty had announced her decision to step down as T20 captain, citing a desire to focus more on her batting. However, Joty will continue to lead the team in the ODI format.

Nahida is a key pillar of Bangladesh’s bowling attack. In addition to her long tenure with the national team, she also brings significant leadership experience to the role. The left-arm spinner is now set to take charge of the T20 team for a full tenure.
