
A child tragically died after drowning in the Padma River in Hashimpur area of Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia. The deceased child had come from Dhaka with his family to visit his maternal grandparents’ house.
According to local sources, the child had come to visit his maternal grandparents’ house in Hashimpur with his family members.
On Sunday, 07-06-26, at around 12 noon, he fell into the water while playing on the banks of the Padma River near his house. After a while, the family members started searching for him, unable to find him.
Later, with the help of local people, the child was rescued from the river and quickly taken to the Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The sudden death of the child has cast a shadow of grief among the family and relatives. An atmosphere of grief prevails in the area due to this incident.
According to experts, extra vigilance is necessary around children around rivers, ponds and water bodies during the monsoon season. Parents need to be vigilant at all times for children who do not know how to swim, as many children die from drowning in the country every year.
