Dr. S. M. Hemayet Jahan, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Professor of the Department of Entomology, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU).

This information was given in a notification issued by the Science and Technology University Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education on Monday (June 8).

The notification said, with the approval of His Excellency the President and the Chancellor of the University, Dr. S. M. Hemayet Jahan has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the University under Section 10 (1) of the Patuakhali University of Science and Technology Act, 2001.

According to the terms of appointment, he will hold the office of Vice-Chancellor for a period of four years from the date of joining or till the date of retirement, whichever is earlier. In this post, he will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his present post and will enjoy other benefits as per the rules.

The notification further states that as the Chief Executive Officer of the university, he will have to stay on the university campus all the time. If necessary, the President and the Chancellor can cancel this appointment at any time.

Dr. S. M. Hemayet Jahan has been associated with the teaching, research and administrative activities of Paviprabi for a long time. His appointment as the Vice-Chancellor has created new expectations among the teachers, officials and employees of the university and students.

The notification states that this order has been issued in the public interest.
