
A young man named Md. Shariful Islam was killed in a clash between fans over a World Cup football match in Comilla. The incident took place in Dhanpur area of Durgapur union of Adarsh Sadar upazila on Tuesday (July 7) night.
The deceased Shariful Islam (32) is the son of Matiur Rahman, a resident of Uttar Cheranga area of Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari. He lived in a rented house in Mathapuskarani area of ward number 23 of Comilla city. It is known that Shariful Islam was a supporter of Egypt.
It is known that on Tuesday night, during the World Cup football match between Argentina and Egypt, an argument started between the fans. At one stage, it turned into a clash. At that time, local Babu and Main Uddin Malu, known as Argentina supporters, allegedly hit Shariful Islam on the head.
Locals rescued Shariful Islam in a seriously injured condition and took him to Comilla Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Upon receiving the information, the police visited the scene and prepared a post-mortem report of the deceased’s body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Local resident Hannan said, “Such a tragic murder over a trivial dispute over a football match is not desirable. Those involved should be arrested quickly and given exemplary punishment. We have also watched the game. There will be wins and losses in the game, that’s why it’s called murder!”
Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Anwar said that a drive is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident. Legal action is underway in this incident.
