30 pieces of banned Chinese gillnets were seized from a passenger steel body boat in a joint operation by Bangladesh Coast Guard and Upazila Fisheries Department in Monpura Upazila of Bhola. Later, the seized nets were burnt and destroyed in fire following the legal process.

According to Bangladesh Coast Guard sources, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 5:10 pm, based on secret information, an operation was conducted on a passenger steel body boat in the area adjacent to Janata Ghat in Monpura Upazila under the leadership of the Contingent Commander of BCG Outpost Monpura under the Coast Guard South Zone and in cooperation with the Upazila Fisheries Department.

During the operation, 30 pieces of banned Chinese gillnets were seized during a search of the boat. The estimated market value of the seized net is 1 lakh 40 thousand taka.

At the end of the operation, the seized China Duari nets were burned and destroyed by following the legal process in the presence of Manpura Upazila Fisheries Officer-in-Charge Kajal Rekha. At that time, local dignitaries and journalists from various media outlets were present along with Coast Guard officials.

In this regard, Manpura Upazila Fisheries Officer-in-Charge Kajal Rekha said, “The banned China Duari nets are very harmful to all types of fish in the water bodies. The use of these nets destroys not only big fish but also fry and eggs, which is a serious threat to the fishery resources. Therefore, everyone should refrain from using such illegal nets to increase public awareness and protect the fishery resources.”

Bangladesh Coast Guard said that such joint operations against the conservation of the country’s fishery resources, biodiversity protection and illegal use of nets will be conducted regularly in the future.
