BNP leader Muhammad Rashed Khan has commented that opposition chief whip and National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam announced 1-point after getting clear clearance from the army.

He made this comment in a post on his verified Facebook page at 2:22 am on Friday (July 17).

In the Facebook post, Rashed Khan wrote, ‘After Abdul Quader’s information about Mahfuz Alam’s role in the mass uprising was published, Mahfuz Alam tried to make himself safe by handing over all his contributions to the Shibir house. But before that, he had never admitted to the Shibir’s role. In the Facebook post, Mahfuz Alam wrote, I asked Sadiq Qayem to prepare a draft of what would be in the non-cooperation movement, which Asif read the next day. But Jamaat’s Sangram Patrika has written that a draft of a one-point declaration was prepared that night with Sadiq Qayem, which was read by Asif Mahmud!’

This leader, who left the People’s Rights Council, wrote, ‘Jamaat knows very well how to create a statement. However, the one-point declaration was read not by Asif Mahmud, but by Nahid Islam. And Asif read the guidelines for the implementation of the non-cooperation movement.’

Rashed Khan said that there is no problem in taking credit for the contribution of the camp, saying, ‘But if you try to exaggerate, there will be a mess. Sadiq Qayem worked as Salman during the mass uprising, this is an eternal truth. But now if it is said for more credit, Sadiq Qayem worked as Sadiq Qayem during the mass uprising, it will be untrue! This is exactly how credit matters are. There is no room for claiming more than the contribution he made.’

Rashed Khan wrote, ‘Mahfuz Alam wrote, ‘We were all against the online announcement of the first phase on the night of the 2nd. We were in favor of making the announcement publicly at the Shaheed Minar on the 3rd. Because the pressure for the announcement at night came from a specific quarter.’ By this quarter, Mahfuz Alam meant the cantonment, which Nahid Islam had also said earlier.’

Commenting on Nahid Islam’s announcement of the 1st phase after receiving a clear clearance from the army, Rashed Khan wrote, “It is worth remembering that on August 2, a press release of the army was published that a meeting of all senior officers was held on August 3, and then on August 3 at noon, the army chief said that the army would not open fire on the students and the public? Is this a lie? Didn’t this statement of the army give courage to the public? Basically, the army decided to stand on the side of the people on August 1.”

According to him, Sheikh Hasina practically fell on August 1. That signal was received by almost all the MP ministers, including Sheikh Hasina. That is why everyone started running away from that time.

Stating that the cantonment also has a lot of role in the mass uprising, Rashed Khan wrote, “I said this figuratively to explain the role or contribution of the army that Nahid Islam announced the 1st phase after receiving a clear clearance. I hope you understand the statement. Nahid Islam also has a role here, the army also has a role.

He said that all student organizations, political parties and the public, including the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Chhatra Shibir, have a role in the mass uprising.

Stating that the decision to declare the 1-point was taken by a collective decision, he wrote, “Some may have contributed more, some less. But from July 19 to August 5, Hasnat and Sarjis were not involved in decision or policy making. They were kept away from the place of suspicion because they went to meetings with government ministers. Let Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, Abu Baker, Rifat Rashid, Mahin Sarkar say whether Abdul Kader’s statement is true or false.”
