JCSU VP beaten, JD expelled from campus

Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JCUSU) representatives were attacked while displaying placards on various issues of the campus, including handing over the work of the second campus to the army, early commencement of work on the temporary housing project, and development of the medical center. JCUSU VP Riazul Islam was beaten and expelled from the campus.

On Tuesday (August 4), JCUSU representatives alleged that the attack occurred when they tried to enter the university’s central auditorium with placards while attending a program by the UGC chairman.

JOCSU VP Riazul Islam, GS Abdul Alim Arif, JOCSU executive member Abdullah Al Faruk, JOB Chhatra Shakti president Shahin Mia, general secretary Ferdous Sheikh, JOB correspondent of the Daily Amar Sangbad Abdullah Al Mamun and many others were injured in the incident.

JOCSU sources said that an initiative was taken to highlight various demands of the students on placards, including the speedy handover of the university’s second campus to the army, the speedy implementation of the temporary housing project in Keraniganj, the facilities of the medical center and the improvement of medical services. When the UGC chairman came to the university, the JOCSU representatives tried to enter the program with placards to present these demands to him.

However, they were stopped when they entered the central auditorium with placards. At one stage, it is reported that the JOCSU representatives had an altercation and scuffle with Chhatra Dal leaders and activists and those related to the administration. JACSU representatives have alleged that their placards were snatched from them and torn and they were attacked.

In a video circulating on social media, JACSU VP Riazul Islam and other leaders were seen blocking Chhatra Dal convener Mehedi Hasan Himel when they were about to enter the auditorium. At that time, when Dr. KAM Rifat Hasan, a teacher in the university’s Management Studies Department, tried to handle the situation, the Chhatra Dal convener himself pushed him.

At that time, Himel said, “Close this door. Block the gate quickly.” Later, the gate was blocked. Currently, JACSU leaders are seen protesting in front of the auditorium with torn placards.

JACSU leaders allege that they took the initiative to peacefully display placards to present the students’ reasonable demands to the UGC Chairman. But their program was interrupted, the placards were torn and they were directly attacked.

JACSU GS Abdul Alim Arif wrote on Facebook, Has the proctor become Chhatra Dal or is Chhatra Dal acting as proctor? Entry into the auditorium is blocked despite invitation. Pushing and shoving is only possible by Chhatra Dal.

In this regard, JACSU VP Riazul Islam said, the proctor’s office and Chhatra Dal cadres have torn the posters of the students’ logical demands and the Chhatra Dal attack on the students of Jagannath University. In addition, JACSU representatives have been pushed.

The trial of this heinous attack must be implemented very quickly, accepting the logical demands of the students. They have torn the posters of our brothers and sisters. InshaAllah, the demands will be met through these torn posters.
