Pro-Jamaat teachers’ organization EB Green Forum and pro-BNP teachers’ organization EB UTAB have strongly condemned and protested in separate statements over the allegations of involvement in anti-state activities against 404 teachers of 22 government universities of the country, including the Islamic University (EB).
On Thursday (August 06), Green Forum President Professor Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman and General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Obaidul Islam and UTAB Acting President Professor Dr. Mohammad Selim and Acting General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Rashiduzzaman signed separate statements.
The Green Forum’s statement said that news has been published in various media and online media about the involvement of 404 teachers of 22 universities of the country in the attempt to bring back the fugitive Sheikh Hasina and activate a banned political party. The organization strongly condemns and protests such activities.
The statement further said that the names of some teachers of the Islamic University have also been mentioned in the media. According to the organization, such activities not only tarnish the image of the university but also go against the prevailing laws of the country and the interests of the state and destabilize the entire country including the university, which is unacceptable in any way.
On the other hand, the UTAB statement said that the report published alleging involvement in various activities against the state and public interest is a matter of deep concern. Strongly condemning such conspiratorial activities of teachers inspired by the ideology of a banned party, the organization demanded that the relevant authorities, especially the Islamic University administration, take appropriate action against the teachers involved in the allegations.
In addition, it was also called upon to help take necessary measures by submitting a report to the investigation committee formed in this regard quickly. At the same time, UTAB expressed its hope that a progressive educational environment will be maintained in universities, keeping in mind the spirit of July-August, and justice will be ensured against all types of terrorist activities that disrupt the educational environment.
It is worth noting that, according to various media reports published in August, 404 teachers from 22 public universities in the country, including 44 teachers from Islamic University, are allegedly involved in a secret group on the Telegram app to activate the banned Awami League and create an environment to bring Sheikh Hasina back to the country.
