Sheikh Hasina will get full security, constitutional rights and legal assistance if she returns home, said Prime Minister’s Information Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman.

He said this in response to a question at the weekly press briefing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Secretariat on Tuesday (August 11).

Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman said that Sheikh Hasina will face the judicial process with full security if she comes to Bangladesh. She will enjoy the rights she has in the judicial process. Then, everyone will have to accept the decision given by the court.

He said that this is a democratic state. Here, even the biggest criminal has civil and constitutional rights. Be it Sheikh Hasina or Shakib Al Hasan – the rights of the law and the constitution will be ensured for everyone.

The advisor said that the government does not want to see any fascist or mafia regime again and no such system will be allowed to be established in the future.

Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s return to the country, he said, if she comes, she will come with full security. She will go through the judicial process with full security and enjoy her full rights. Whatever needs to be done will be done.

At this time, the topic of Shakib Al Hasan’s return to the country also came up. When asked about Shakib’s request to the government for security and his desire to face the case upon returning to the country, the advisor said, if someone wants to come to Bangladesh and face the case, the law and the judicial process, there is no reason for the government to panic about his safety.

He said, if someone comes to the country, the allegations and legal issues against him will have to be dealt with. If he faces the judicial process according to the law, his safety will be ensured.

In response to journalists’ questions about the position of people still associated with the previous government in various government institutions and the media, Zahed Ur Rahman said, a person does not become ineligible to perform government duties just because he is a supporter of a political party. If he is not accused of any crime, he can perform his duties.

However, he said that steps are being taken step by step for those who were openly and actively involved with the previous government.

The advisor said that changes are also being made in various institutions under the Ministry of Information. However, the government does not want to rush into anything unnecessarily. Necessary steps are being taken step by step.

He said that what the government has done in the 180 days since taking office is also being calculated. The government’s various steps and changes need to be evaluated in the light of this time.

Regarding the allegations made by journalists that the previous government still has influence in the media, he said that the government is also taking note of this. The government is seriously considering what happened during the July uprising and those who were affected in various ways at that time.

The advisor also said that in a democratic state, there can be differences in political ideologies. But if there is a connection with a crime, it must be considered legally. The government’s goal is to establish a democratic state system by ensuring law and constitutional rights.
