The leaders and activists of the organization have withdrawn from the road after blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong highway to protest the killing of the leader of the Islamic Youth Movement in Bandar, Narayanganj.

On Friday (August 21), they blocked the highway in the Madanpur area of Bandar around 9 am. This caused a traffic jam on both sides of the highway for several kilometers.

After the blockade was lifted around 11 am, traffic on the highway began, said Shamim Sheikh, OC of Kanchpur Highway Police Station.

Earlier, on Thursday (August 20) night, Islamic Youth Movement leader Bulbul Ahmed was murdered in the Salehnagar area of Bandar. 35-year-old Bulbul is the son of Raja Master of the nearby Shahi Masjid area.

The area where Bulbul was attacked falls under Ward No. 21 of the Narayanganj City Corporation.

Bulbul was the joint secretary of the Bandar Thana (West) branch of the Islamic Youth Movement, said Mufti Masum Billah, president of the Narayanganj Metropolitan City branch of the Islamic Youth Movement.

During the protest following the murder, Islamic Youth Movement activists said on Facebook Live that they had blocked the highway demanding justice for Bulbul’s murder. Publicly demanding the hanging of those involved in the murder, they said that they would not lift the blockade without any assurance from the administration, but a ‘clear commitment’.

Mufti Masum Billah said, “During the anti-discrimination student movement, Bulbul’s garage was attacked and looted. Bulbul later filed a case in that incident. Sheikh Sifat, the leader of a local ‘teen gang’, and his gang members were accused in the case.”

Masum Billah alleged that Sifat and his gang members attacked Bulbul in the Salehnagar area due to this case.
