A six-year-old boy has been rescued alive after being buried under mud and debris in a horrific flash flood caused by a landslide in Nepal.

Security forces rescued him on Friday evening in Timure village of Rasua district of the country. The rescue of the child alive has shown a new ray of hope amid the massive loss of life and disappearances in the terrible flood.

Recently, flash floods occurred in various areas of Rasua district due to the overflowing of the Bhote Koshi River. This inundated a vast area including Timure village and damaged many houses and structures.

Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) was conducting an operation to search for the missing after the flood. On Friday, rescuers were searching for the possibility of someone alive under the rubble and soil in the Timure area. At one stage, they heard faint cries from under the ground.

The rescue workers quickly started digging after identifying the source of the sound. After a long effort, they were able to pull the child out alive from under the thick mud and rubble.

After the rescue, the child was first taken to the APF border post in Timure. Although he was given first aid there, his physical condition deteriorated later. The authorities took the initiative to quickly take him to Kathmandu for better treatment.

It was planned to take the child to Kathmandu by helicopter on Friday evening. But due to adverse weather and low visibility, the flight was not possible.

Then the rescuers continued to try to stabilize the child’s condition. When the weather cleared slightly after Saturday afternoon, he was taken to a hospital in Kathmandu by helicopter.

Currently, the child is under the supervision of specialist doctors. His physical condition is being closely monitored.

The video of the child being rescued alive after being under the rubble for three days went viral on social media. Many have praised the APF members who took part in the rescue operation.

One user wrote on social media X (formerly Twitter), “Salute to the Armed Police Force team who did not stop searching.”

Another wrote, “When all hope was lost, she was found.”

Authorities are also now searching for the child’s family. There have been calls on social media to find her identity and family members.

Authorities said that the child’s name has been identified as Manisha Magar. If anyone recognizes her or has any information about her family, they have been requested to inform the relevant authorities immediately.

Disaster in Nepal due to severe floods

The child’s rescue has become a rare example of hope amid the ongoing severe floods and landslides in Nepal. Rescue and search operations are still ongoing in different parts of the country.

A large number of people have died in the floods and thousands are missing. According to the latest information, rescue teams have recovered 752 bodies. In addition, more than 2,500 people are still missing.

The scale of the disaster is so extensive that Nepal will have to carry out long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation activities to overcome the damage, the country’s government has said.

Reconstruction may cost hundreds of millions of dollars

Nepalese Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said on Saturday that the country’s reconstruction and rehabilitation after the devastating floods could cost up to several billion dollars.

He told reporters in Kathmandu that reconstruction and rehabilitation will likely require billions of dollars. The government will plan reconstruction after a detailed assessment of the damage and losses.

At the same time, he appealed to the international community for help. He also said that the necessary rehabilitation plan will be taken after the government prepares a full assessment of the damage.

Rescue operations in remote mountainous areas of Nepal after the floods are still facing major challenges. Communication systems have been cut off in many areas and adverse weather conditions are making rescue operations more difficult. Meanwhile, the rescue of a six-year-old child from the rubble after three days has given new hope to the rescuers as well as the entire country.
