A bilateral series between India and Pakistan has not been held since 2013 due to political animosity. Therefore, fans are forced to wait for the two arch-rivals to face each other in ICC’s global tournaments.

India has dominated this competition in major tournaments like the recent World Cup, Asia Cup and Champions Trophy. In such a situation, the ICC is planning to organize a tri-nation or quadruple series between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan.

This could be a big series that can be organized at a neutral venue, where neither team will have any objection to playing.

According to a report by ‘ARY News’, the issue of this tri-nation or quadruple series may be raised for discussion in the upcoming ICC meeting to be held in Dubai. The meeting to be held on September 22-23 will discuss the schedule of international matches and the ‘Future Tours Programme’ (FTP) for the 2027-2031 cycle. This series will give fans a chance to watch the clash between India and Pakistan.

Earlier, it was reported that India has expressed its interest to the ICC to host more tri-nation and quadrennial series. These series were quite popular in the late 90s and early 2000s. The issue is also being discussed in the upcoming ICC meeting, as they believe that such series can generate more revenue than bilateral series.

Due to political tensions, Pakistan has been trying to host more India-Pakistan matches at neutral venues outside major tournaments.

However, due to the cold relations between the two countries, the BCCI has not received the green light from the Indian government in this regard.

The last match between India and Pakistan in a tri-nation series was held in 2008 in the ‘Kitply Cup’, where Bangladesh also participated as the host country. Since then, they have not faced each other in any tri-nation series. In the last series between the two countries, Pakistan won the ODI series and the T20 series was drawn.

Meanwhile, relations between the two teams deteriorated after several Indian nationals were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year.

As a result, Indian cricketers did not do the toss or the customary post-match handshake during the Asia Cup held that year. They even refused to accept the trophy from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. As a result, the chairman took the trophy with him and Suryakumar Yadav’s team celebrated the victory without the trophy.

Later, the PCB imposed restrictions on playing matches against India in the T20 World Cup this year. However, they eventually took the field and lost.
