Police have recovered the body of a 15-year-old girl named Jannatul Tazmin from a paddy field in Lalmai, Cumilla. An abandoned CNG auto-rickshaw was also seized from the scene.
The body was recovered on Thursday (October 8) from a paddy field in the Jagatpur (Manumura) area of Perul Uttar Union, adjacent to the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway in Lalmai Upazila.
The deceased, Jannatul Tazmin, was the daughter of Abdul Alim from Chhatian-tala village in Churamonkati Union, Jashore Sadar Upazila. Having grown up in Cumilla due to her father’s job, Tazmin was a seventh-grade student at Farida Bidyayatan in Cumilla.
Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmai Police Station, confirmed the matter in the afternoon.
According to her family, Tazmin had gone to visit a friend’s house four days ago. Later, she traveled to Cox’s Bazar with that friend. She set out for Cumilla from there on Wednesday night. Although her father, Abdul Alim, called her mobile phone multiple times during the night, the calls went unanswered, causing the family members to become anxious.
Locals reported that they informed the police after spotting the body in the paddy field on Thursday morning. A CNG auto-rickshaw was also found abandoned at the same location. Upon receiving the information, a police team led by Lalmai Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman recovered the body. Later, Tazmin’s father arrived at the scene and identified his daughter’s body.
Hanif, the Headmaster of Farida Bidyayatan, stated that Tazmin used to study in the seventh grade but had enrolled in another school starting last March.
Lalmai Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman said the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Preparations are underway to send the body to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Multiple police agencies have initiated an investigation to uncover the mystery behind the incident.
