Dispute over electricity bill in Sharikkhali, Taltali, allegation of attack on customer

An allegation has been made of an attack on a customer in Sharikkhali Union of Taltoli Upazila of Barguna over an argument over the distribution of electricity bills. The injured Awal Akon is currently undergoing treatment in a serious condition, it is learnt.

According to local sources, despite being in charge of MRCM Kamruzzaman Sharikkhali Union, Sharikkhali ordinary citizen Mustafa Gazi and Badurgacha Agni Hawladar do not reach the bill paper to the customer’s house properly or on time. When the customer Awal Akon asked Mustafa Kazi about this, a fight broke out. At one point, the relatives of the victim accused Mustafa Gazi and his sons of attacking the customer Awal Akon indiscriminately. Awal Akon is now fighting with death.

Attempts were made to contact the family of accused Mustafa Gazi at their home to get their statement on the incident, but no one was available. In addition, his younger son did not answer his phone even though he was called several times.

In this regard, the General Manager (GM) of Patuakhali Rural Electricity said, “No ordinary person can do the work of MRCM or the responsible officer. If evidence is found that the official duty has been performed by someone else, then the matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken.”

Taltoli Rural Electricity AGMO also made a similar statement and said that if the allegations are found to be true, departmental action will be taken against the concerned officer in charge, Kamruzzaman. He also said that he will go to Sharikkhali Union next Monday and talk to the customers.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Taltoli Police Station said that a case has been filed against Mustafa Gazi and his sons in the attack on Awal Akon. The matter is under investigation and further legal proceedings are underway.

The incident has created a stir in the area. Locals have demanded a proper investigation into the incident and legal action against the culprits.
