7,500 pieces of Yaba and cash seized in Dumki 1

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested 7,500 pieces of Yaba, cash and a drug dealer in a special operation in the Lebukhali Toll Plaza area of Dumki upazila of Patuakhali. The market value of the recovered Yaba is around 3.75 million taka, the agency said.

The Coast Guard Station Patuakhali conducted the operation at around 4:30 am on Thursday (June 25) based on a secret tip-off. During the operation, a suspicious passenger bus plying in the area adjacent to the Lebukhali Toll Plaza was searched. At that time, 7,500 pieces of Yaba and 4,045 taka in cash were recovered from a person in the bus. He was later arrested.

Coast Guard sources said that various drug gangs have been trying to supply drugs to different parts of the country using the coastal area. In addition to strengthening intelligence surveillance against these gangs, regular operations are being conducted. In continuation of this, this Yaba consignment was seized in an operation conducted based on secret information.

On Thursday afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said in a press release that the estimated market value of the recovered Yaba is about 3.75 million taka. The process of taking legal action against the seized narcotics, cash and the detained person is ongoing.

In this regard, Bangladesh Coast Guard Patuakhali Operation Officer Lieutenant Commander Rifat Ahmed said, “As part of the government’s zero tolerance policy against drugs, the Bangladesh Coast Guard is conducting regular operations. Such operations will continue in the future to prevent the spread of drugs in remote areas and coastal areas of the country.”

According to relevant sources, efforts are being made to collect information about the source of Yaba and other people involved in it by interrogating the detained person. He will be handed over to the concerned police station after the next legal process.
