Former MP and former Chhatra League president Mahmud Hasan Ripon has demanded justice for the incident, alleging the killing of banned Awami League and banned Chhatra League leaders and activists in the Turag area.

In a statement sent to the media on Saturday (June 27), he claimed that the half-melted bodies of three Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists have been recovered from the Turag River. At the same time, he also alleged that four more leaders and activists are missing.

Mahmud Hasan Ripon alleged that an attack took place on a procession of Awami League and Chhatra League in Turag Thana on June 22. He claimed that some leaders and activists were tortured and killed after attacking the peaceful program. Later, their bodies were thrown into the river.

In the statement, he further alleged that the government has deployed law enforcement forces to suppress programs organized at various places on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the Awami League. At the same time, he also accused BNP and Jamaat leaders and activists of attacks.

Mahmud Hasan Ripon said that Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists are being targeted and killed due to political ideology. He also alleged that leaders and activists are being systematically killed not only on the streets but also in prisons.

In the statement, he said that it is not possible to suppress the Awami League through murder, disappearance or torture. The party’s leaders and activists uphold the tradition of movement and struggle and will remain steadfast in their political position under any circumstances.

He demanded that those involved in the incident be identified and brought to justice. He also called for ensuring the maximum punishment for those involved in this murder.
