This time, the Parliament has passed a budget of Tk 938 billion for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The size of the budget for the new fiscal year is Tk 148 billion more than the current fiscal year. The size of the budget for the current 2025-26 fiscal year was Tk 790 billion.

Today, Tuesday (June 30), Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presented a proposal to pass the Tk 938 billion budget in the session of the Parliament, and it was passed in a fixed form by a voice vote of the members of parliament present. At that time, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the session.

Earlier, 59 demands related to the expenditure of ministries and departments were presented in the budget and voted on. Against these demands, members of parliament proposed 1,344 layoffs. Discussions were held on the layoff proposals that came up. After discussion, the retrenchment proposals were settled by voice vote.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the budget proposal of Tk 9.38 trillion for the fiscal year 2026-2027 in the National Parliament on June 11. It was passed after a long discussion between the government party, the opposition party and independent members of parliament on the proposed budget. The budget will be effective from July 1 tomorrow.
