A school student named Shamima Akter Setu (14) was killed when a stone-laden truck overturned on a house in Lohagara Upazila of Narail. Her sister Mitu Khanam (12) was injured in the incident and is admitted to the hospital.

The accident occurred at around 12:30 am on Sunday (July 5) in the Naldi Khalpar area of the upazila.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Naldi Police Camp Anichuzzaman confirmed the matter.

Shamima Akter Setu and Mitu Khanam are two daughters of Hafizar Molya of the area. Setu is a student of class 8 of the local Naldi BBS Secondary School and Mitu is a student of class 6.

Relatives and police said that Setu and Mitu were sleeping in their house after finishing their studies on Sunday night. When the stone-laden truck reached the Naldi Khalpar area around 12:30 am, the driver lost control. As a result, the truck overturned on the house on the left side of the road. Two sisters, Setu and Mitu, were sleeping in that house. Setu and her younger sister Mitu were seriously injured when the truck hit them while they were sleeping and the stones in the truck crushed them. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors on duty at the emergency department declared Setu dead. The injured Mitu is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

In this regard, ASI Anichuzzaman of Naldi Police Camp said that the driver and his assistant fled after abandoning the truck after the accident. Further legal action is under process in this incident.
