Speech-impaired woman killed and robbed at Raipura railway station: 5 arrested in joint operation

Law enforcement agencies have arrested five people involved in the death of speech-impaired woman Bobby Begum (65), who was attacked and robbed at Methikanda railway station in Raipura, Narsingdi. They were arrested in a joint operation after the barbaric incident created a huge stir on social media.

The arrests in a joint operation by Bhairab Railway Police Station, Dhaka Railway District DB and RAB-11 Narsingdi are Shakib Mia (23), Ilias Mia (35), Billal Mia (25), Din Islam (26) and Rifat Mia (20).

According to local and police sources, a group of miscreants entered an abandoned room at Methikanda Railway Station late on Saturday night and brutally attacked Bobby Begum, a helpless and speech-impaired old woman. The miscreants beat her severely with sticks and looted all the money she had saved for a long time.

Later, she was rescued in a seriously injured and bloody state and was first admitted to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex. There, her physical condition deteriorated severely and she breathed her last on the way to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital on Tuesday night.

A murder case was filed at Bhairab Railway Police Station after this brutal murder. When the news and pictures of such inhuman torture on the helpless old woman spread on social media, there was a storm of anger and condemnation across the country. After that, the administration took action. The police and RAB quickly took action to bring the criminals to justice.

The law enforcement agency has informed that the arrested accused are being interrogated initially. It is being investigated whether anyone else is involved in this brutal incident.
