Five people were killed when a reckless bus ran over them while recovering a pickup truck that had met with an accident at Suadi bus stand on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. At least five others were injured in the incident.

The incident took place on Saturday (July 11) evening. The identities of the dead and injured could not be immediately confirmed. It is believed that the casualties in this incident may increase.

According to local and police sources, a pickup van loaded with eggs met with an accident at Suadi bus stand due to rain. At that time, a bus of the ‘Narail Express’ going to Gopalganj from Dhaka ran over them. Later, locals set fire to several vehicles on the spot.

Later, on receiving information, Bhanga Highway Police and Fire Service personnel reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation and brought the situation under control.

Bhanga Fire Service Station Manager Abu Jafar said, “We reached the spot after receiving the news of the accident and tried to control the fire. There are five bodies at the spot. Many people are seriously injured in the hospital. Some are in a very critical condition there.”

Bhanga Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman said that a pickup van loaded with eggs met with an accident due to rain at Suadi bus stand. At that time, when the pickup was rescued with the help of local people, the Narail Express from Dhaka to Gopalganj ran over them.

Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road after the accident. The agitated crowd vandalized several vehicles and set several vehicles on fire. Till the time of writing this report (9 pm), no administration personnel could reach the agitated crowd. Several vehicles are burning on the road. The agitated crowd vandalized 30-40 vehicles.
