Labour Party leader Andy Burnham has officially taken office as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

He took charge of forming a new government after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Monday. He took office as the 59th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

He is the sixth Prime Minister to enter Downing Street since 2016.

He will have to face a variety of major challenges at the beginning of his term. He also has very limited time to make his leadership mark.

Burnham, 56, replaces outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Just two years ago, Starmer brought the Labour Party to power in a landslide victory, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. However, he resigned after losing popularity.

Earlier, Keir Starmer officially stepped down from the post of Prime Minister after meeting with King Charles III.
