Md. Jamal Hossain, headmaster of Alir Bandar A.M. Secondary School in Taltoli upazila of Barguna, has been accused of personally cooking and living in the school’s government building. At the same time, several students and guardians have complained about collecting additional money from students in the name of session fees.

According to local sources, although the school building built with government funding is mainly intended for teaching and conducting educational activities, headmaster Md. Jamal Hossain is living there illegally and cooking. Using government educational institution buildings for personal purposes without the approval of the appropriate authorities is against the intended purpose of government resources.

Meanwhile, there have been allegations of collecting Tk 1,350 per person as session fees from students. It is alleged that there is no relevant policy or approval behind the collection of this money, which has created anger among ordinary students and guardians.

Regarding the complaint, headmaster Md. When asked about Jamal Hossain, he reacted angrily and told reporters:

“I will not give any excuse to journalists. I will give it where it is needed. And what do you think about cooking in school, I am cooking without permission from the office?”

When contacted, the Taltoli Upazila Secondary Education Officer said, “I did not ask them to cook and eat at school.” However, he refused to comment in detail on the investigation or any other issue regarding the complaint.

Although the matter was later reported to the District Secondary Education Officer, no visible steps have been taken by the administration to investigate the complaint till the time of writing.

Local conscious circles believe that the educational environment is being ruined by using government school buildings for personal purposes. They have also demanded that accountability be ensured for collecting additional money in the name of session fees. Conscious citizens of the area have strongly demanded a speedy impartial investigation into these complaints and strict action against those responsible according to prevailing laws and government rules if the truth is proven.
