An exceptional campaign has been held in Patharghata, Barguna, under the slogan ‘Pani Chai’, due to the acute crisis of safe and safe drinking water.
Today, Wednesday, July 22 (2026), at 3 pm, this program was held in the Hoglapasha housing area of Charduani Union of the upazila. ‘Activista Barguna’ organized this campaign in collaboration with ‘ActionAid Bangladesh’ and under the project run by ‘NSS’.
Thousands of women and children from the coastal region participated in the campaign with empty pitchers, buckets and various protest festoons. They strongly demanded the government to provide clean drinking water immediately. At this time, the participants were seen holding festoons with various demands on the water crisis, including ‘Safe water is a fundamental right, the state’s commitment to ensure it.’
According to local sources, the Hoglapasha housing area is unsuitable for installing deep tube wells due to geographical reasons. As a result, more than 3,000 people from 450 families in the housing area have been suffering from acute shortage of drinking water for a long time.
Shahabuddin Panna, Executive Director of Barguna NSS, who was present at the program, said that it is urgent to resolve the drinking water crisis in this neglected coastal town. He urged the government to take necessary steps immediately to ensure this basic right of the common people.
The affected families and local conscious people have drawn the attention of the concerned authorities to take permanent measures to solve this long-standing drinking water problem in the coastal area.
