A student of Pujakhali Government Primary School in Charbhuta Union of Lalmohan Upazila, Bhola, was critically injured in a tragic road accident and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in the capital, fighting for her life. The injured student has been identified as Zubayda.
According to local residents and family sources, Zubayda’s father, Md. Jasim Uddin, has been serving with distinction as a teacher at Pujakhali Government Primary School for many years. Their home is located approximately two to three kilometers from the school. Three of his four children study at the same institution. Due to the scarcity of transportation in the area, he regularly walked to and from school with his children.
The family alleges that, due to a recent requirement for teachers to be present at school by 9:00 a.m. and submit attendance photographs via WhatsApp, Mr.Saifuddin Jasim hurried to reach the school on time yesterday. He instructed his children to follow behind at a slower pace while he proceeded ahead to complete the attendance process and submit the required photograph.
Meanwhile, while the children were on their way to school and had just reached the main road, a speeding auto-rickshaw struck them. Zubayda suffered a severe head injury and was thrown onto the road in a bleeding condition. One of her siblings also sustained minor injuries.
Following the accident, local residents rushed Zubayda to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Bhola Sadar Hospital. However, due to the lack of ICU and advanced neurological treatment facilities there, attending physicians advised her immediate transfer to Dhaka.
After a long journey to the capital, doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital conducted an emergency CT scan and other examinations. They confirmed that Zubayda had suffered internal bleeding in the brain and severe damage to a portion of her skull. According to the medical team, an urgent and costly surgical operation is required to save her life.
At this difficult time, the family is appealing for support from people from all walks of life to help save the life of a teacher’s daughter. They have particularly called upon members of the primary education community, fellow teachers, government officials, public representatives, and affluent individuals to extend their assistance.
The incident has also prompted concerns among local observers regarding the implementation of technology-based attendance monitoring systems. While acknowledging the importance of ensuring teacher attendance, many have emphasized the need for a humane and practical approach. They argue that administrative requirements should never create circumstances that jeopardize the safety and lives of teachers, students, or their family members.
