A fire broke out at a new shop in the Nalbunia area of ​​Sharikkhali Union in Taltoli Upazila of Barguna just a day after its inauguration. All the goods in the shop, including rice, fertilizer, pesticides and two machines, were burnt to ashes in the fire. The affected businessman claims that about Tk 3 to 3.5 lakh was lost in this.

The shop was officially inaugurated last Friday (August 7, 2026). The fire occurred late the next day, Saturday.

According to local sources, Salam Howlader of the same area started his business by renting a shophouse from Siddiqur Rahman at the Nalbunia bus stand. In order to start a new business, he collected rice, fertilizer, various types of medicines and other products from various moneylenders and brought them to the shop. Two necessary machines were also kept for sale.

But the accidental fire broke out the night after the inauguration. The fire spread in an instant and all the goods inside the shop were burnt to ashes.

In a tearful voice, the affected businessman Salam Hawlader said, “I started a new business with many dreams. I brought the remaining goods from the moneylenders and brought them to the shop. But the day after the inauguration, everything was burnt to ashes in the fire. I am now completely destitute. I do not know how to repay this debt and how to compensate for the loss.”

Local residents said that since the shop is new, there is no electricity connection yet. As a result, there is no chance of a fire from an electrical short circuit. The affected businessmen and locals believe that some miscreant may have deliberately set fire to the shop in the dark of night.

Since the incident was confirmed, there has been a huge stir in the area. Locals have expressed anger that the shop where the dream of a new life was arranged a day earlier has been reduced to ashes the next day.

The affected businessmen and locals have demanded an impartial investigation into the matter to uncover the real cause of the fire and to quickly bring anyone involved in the incident to justice.
