Mehedi Hasan Miraj hooked Riley Meredith’s short length ball over fine leg and sent it to the gallery of Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla. Bangladesh was jubilant. The Bangladesh captain was a part of this historic moment of winning the ODI series for the first time against Australia. But he could not express his feelings after the match. He had to rush to the hospital due to injury.
Bangladesh won by 5 wickets with 6 overs in hand under rain rules at Sher-e-Bangla in Mirpur today. Bangladesh won the historic series against Australia with one match remaining in the three-match series. When it was the captain’s turn to speak at the award ceremony after the match, vice-captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto came in instead of Miraj. Shanto said about Miraj, “I think he is fine. But we will have to monitor him tonight. What I heard is different. He has probably gone to the hospital.”
On the day Bangladesh made history, Miraj took no wickets in 6 overs, spending 30 runs. However, when the Tigers lost the fifth wicket for 144 runs in pursuit of a target of 192, Miraj played an innings of 22 runs off 22 balls and left the field with the team winning. However, he was injured by a bouncer from the Australian pacers.
The third ODI between Bangladesh and Australia will be held in Mirpur on June 14. There is some apprehension in the Tigers’ dressing room about whether Bangladesh players will be able to take the field under the leadership of captain Miraj with the aim of winning the match.
