Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Shobeir showed great goalkeeping in the first half of the last 16 match of the World Cup. Argentina did not see a goal with one after another due to his extraordinary saves. As a result, the current world champions went into the break trailing 1-0.

Argentina was a bit out of rhythm at the beginning of the match. Lionel Messi’s team lost the ball twice in the first five minutes due to simple mistakes.

Egypt took the lead in the 14th minute through Yasser Ibrahim’s header from a corner.

Argentina had a great chance to equalize in the 19th minute. The team was awarded a penalty when Nicolas Tagliafico was fouled in the box. But goalkeeper Shobeir blocked Lionel Messi’s shot with extraordinary skill.

Even then, Argentina launched one attack after another. Shobeir made a superb save, stopping both a close-range header from Alexis McAllister and a powerful shot from Julian Alvarez.

In the 30th minute, Messi’s free kick from outside the box hit the post. The ball didn’t go in the net, but the Egyptian goalkeeper got close enough to see the shot go in.

Argentina created several good chances throughout the first half, but Shobeir’s excellent goalkeeping kept them out. Egypt went into the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to his skill.
